Four Stocks Flashing Buy Signals

One of our many Buy Signals is the RSI Crossover Buy Signal. Today there were nearly 100 stocks that made the list and four that made it onto the coveted PFG WishList are below:

  • Skyworks Solutions ($SWKS) - pulling back to support after hitting a multi-month high. Price support and the 50-day moving average are in the $26 to $27 range.
  • Plains Exploration & Productions ($PXP) - Pulling back to price support at $41 after topping out at $47 in March, which was a multi-year high.
  • Clean Harbors ($CLH) - Down about 8% from an all-time high in February, the stock is now trying to find support in the $64-$66 area.
  • Ebay ($EBAY) - Pulling back to both price support and the 50-day moving average at $35 after touching a multi-year high at $38 - My Favorite of the group!!

Headline Stocks Today - My Version

IAC Interactive ($IACI) - Gained 3.55% today to close at the best level ever. The owner of Match.com along with a bevy of other websites garnered an upgrade today and the high volume surge of buyers rocketed the stock higher. We recently bought the stock for several of our clients. My favorite play on "social media".

Goldman Sachs ($GS) - Closed at the best level in over 6 months after Nomura, Japanese Bank, raised the target on the firm as well as several other US financial institutions. The next resistance level for $GS is in the $130's, it closed today at $121.13. The volume on the breakout today was the best in over a month - another bullish signal.

FMC Corp ($FMC) - Another stock hitting and all-time high today, $FMC is a chemical company that we bought for clients due to its presence in lithium. The 3rd largest lithium producer (think cell phones and electric cars) in the world has been on a tear for the last 5 months and has logged us a gain of over 100% since we purchased! It appears higher prices are ahead for the little-known leader.

** My firm owns shares in all 3 stocks mentioned.

Market Recap - WishList Stocks, Strong Economic Numbers

The market closed the session lower after comments from Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke were viewed by investors as hawkish. Suggesting another round of stimulus is not in the future. Stocks, gold, and nearly ever asset class were hurt by the remarks.

Top Stocks

Healthcare Services Group ($HCSG) - Pulling back from all-time high to support at the $18-$19 area. Pays a 3.2% dividend. Company provides housekeeping and dietary services to hospitals, nursing homes, etc.

Novellus Systems ($NVLS) - Maker of equipment that is used in the semiconductor industry. Pulling back to support after hitting a multi-year high. Support at $44.

Genomic Health ($GHDX) - Provides medical services and testing for the genomic industry. Consolidating after hitting an all-time high. Stock is aggressive, but in a high growth potential sector.

Strong Economic Numbers

The final GDP for the fourth quarter came in better than expected and showed growth of 3% for the country. This was higher than the 2.8% that was preliminarily reported. Also better than expected was the ISM-Chicago Manufacturing data which came in at a 10-month high of 64. The numbers back up the bullish tone that has been on Wall Street since the beginning of the year and helped stocks to early gains.

Five 52-Week Highs I Like

A growing number of stocks are hitting new 52-week highs today and five that are catching my eye and are on my WatchList are:

  • SPDR S&P Biotech ETF ($XBI) - For the last few years the biotech stocks have looked good heading into January. This year the sector broke out and it appears it is ripe for a strong 2012. Wait to buy on a pullback.
  • Healthcare Services Group ($HCSG) - Provides housekeeping, laundry, maintenance, and dietary services to hospitals and managed care facilities - pays a 3.5% dividend.
  • Viasat ($VSAT) - Maker of wireless communications, networks, and satellites for the government and private customers.
  • Realty Income Corp ($O) - A REIT that owns commercial real estate in the US - pays a 4.8% dividend.
  • Wal-Mart ($WMT) - Unless you live under a rock you know $WMT. The largest retailer in the US is breaking out today - pays a 2.4% dividend.

Market Recap - Home Sales Disappoint and Commodities Rise

Today saw some profit-taking with the S&P 500 falling 0.5% from a multi-month high set early in the session. Gold was up again (+1.25%) and oil closed just below the century mark, up 0.5%.

Tonight's recap will be short and to the point. It was a fairly boring session for most investors and therefore I will concentrate on 5 stocks/ETFs that look pretty darn good right now on the charts.

  • Air Methods ($AIRM) - Bouncing off support at the $80 area and just generated an RSI Crossover Buy Signal.
  • FTI Consulting ($FCN) - Breaking out of a week-long consolidation pattern and closed above the 50-day moving average for the first time in nearly two weeks.
  • Seniorhousing Properties Trust ($SNH) - Rallying from a consolidation pattern that occurred on its 50-day moving average; pays a 6.8% dividend.
  • True Religion ($TRLG) - A stock that continues to defy all logic, however its fundamentals are strong and it has been consolidating on support at the $34 area.
  • iShares High Dividend Equity ETF ($HDV) - Consolidating as stocks take a breather; love the dividend on this ETF. Time to buy is between $54 and $55.
